About SMC
The Sydney Music Circle was formed in 1983 with the intention of promoting local talent, and started out as a series of house concerts, held on the last Saturday of every month. Sydney Music Circle is run purely on a volunteer basis and is managed by a Governing Committee consisting of prominent local musicians and professionals. The operational management is vested in a Committee comprising four locally respected members of the South Indian community. Concerts are free to all music lovers and artistes are not remunerated.
Over the past twenty-five years SMC has provided a forum for Carnatic music by facilitating numerous concerts and music festivals such as the Annual Thyagaraja Aradhana. The now annual Thyagaraja Aradhana began in 1984 in Canberra. The first Thyagaraja Aradhana in Sydney was held in 1988, and Sri K.V. Narayanaswamy, who was in Sydney at the time, took part in the Aradhana that year.
SMC celebrated its 25th Anniversary on 26th April, 2009. You can view the photos and program by clicking on the link above.
To pay for ongoing costs such as hall rental and sound equipment, Sydney Music Circle relies on the generous contributions from its members and well wishers. You are encouraged to sponsor a particular month's music program ($50) or make a donation. To make contributions please contact one of the organisers by email or at one of the concerts.
Donations over $2 are tax deductible and a receipt can be provided on request.
